Headache and Migraine Physiotherapy
in Mornington
Headaches and migraines can affect your work, your sleep and your ability to enjoy everyday life. When they keep coming back, it is easy to feel like you simply have to put up with them. Often, that is not the case.
Many headaches have a physical component in the neck and surrounding structures, which means physiotherapy can play an important role in reducing how often they occur and how severe they feel. Physiotherapy can also assist with identifying triggers, and assist with lifestyle modification to reduce severity and recurrence
How physiotherapy helps with headaches
Not all headaches are the same, and effective treatment starts with understanding the source of your symptoms. A significant number of headaches are linked to the joints, muscles and nerves of the upper neck. When these structures are stiff, irritated or overloaded, they can refer pain into the head and trigger headaches and migraines.
Through careful assessment, we identify whether your neck is contributing to your symptoms and, if so, treat the underlying cause rather than just masking the pain.
Types of headaches we treat
Our approach
Will draws on more than 15 years of clinical experience to assess your neck, posture and movement and to pinpoint what is driving your headaches. Treatment may include hands-on techniques for the upper neck, dry needling, specific exercises and practical strategies to manage triggers in daily life.
If your headaches occur alongside dizziness or balance problems, Will can assess whether vestibular rehabilitation or BPPV treatment may also be needed — so everything is managed under one roof.
Where migraines are involved, physiotherapy works best as part of a broader plan. We are happy to work alongside your GP or specialist so your care is coordinated and effective.
What to expect at your first appointment
Your initial consultation runs for around 30 minutes. Will will take a detailed history of your headaches, assess your neck and movement, and explain what he finds in clear, straightforward terms. You will leave understanding what is contributing to your symptoms and how we plan to reduce them.
